I create what I like. I handcraft all the components; beads and metalwork. I use fine Italian glass (Effetre) and precious metals. Any stones you see in larger pieces are semi-precious stones; such as turquoise, amethyst, jasper, agate, onyx, and swarovski crystal. I receive inspiration from life experiences and my travels.
I began making jewelry about 10 years ago…..but, my crafty creativity did not begin there. I used to steal scraps of fabric from my mom and make my Barbie doll clothes. My favorite was taking old nylons and trying to make a pair of nylons for her. Then I cut off her hair and colored it with markers.
About 8 years ago, while purchasing beads (again), I realized that someone actually needed to make the beads. I wanted to make my own glass beads!!! I asked every bead and glass store owner I could find and no one seemed to have any information. Then, my really nice boyfriend found and bought me my first torch. Forget the diamonds…..I prefer tools! I immediately began experimenting, teaching myself how to make glass beads. I started on a Hot Head torch, which is fairly small and attaches to the top of a canister of MAPP gas. About 4 years ago, I upgraded to a surface mix torch that mixes oxygen and propane and produces a hotter flame.
I taught myself how to make glass beads, but I have since been trying to take as many complimentary classes as possible. I have taken a metalsmithing course, a precious metal clay course, a wax carving class, and am now in a glass casting class in Paris. The more I learn, the more I can create.
I moved back to Paris at the end of 2004 and have since been trying to get everything I need to make jewelry here. Do you know how hard it is to find propane in Paris??? I recently left my day job, and am now a full-time jewelry designer. I am very excited to finally have the guts to do this full time.
I hope you enjoy what I create.
